Fibroids by their nature can cause a bulky uterus which in turn adds weight and compresses surrounding organs. This can manifest itself as dull pain and discomfort and back pain radiating to the legs. Some women report constant pain, some report flare ups with activities like sexual intercourse and exercise. In other cases, the bulky uterus can compress large vessels leading to leg swelling and increased risk of blood clots in the legs. As you may know, blood clots are a serious finding that needs immediate attention. Sometimes, the enlarged uterus can compress the bladder and kidneys causing frequency and leakage.
